Publishing Cycle & General Information
Sentinel Literary Quarterly is published four times a year: January – March, April-June, July-September and October-December. Work accepted for publication are posted as they are accepted and edited on our website in the applicable categories and may also be featured as Read of the Day in the SLQ Daily They are then collected every quarter in book form. The magazine will always be 120 pages long. It is therefore possible that not every work posted on the website within a quarter will make it into the printed magazine that quarter. They will certainly appear in the very next issue.
General Submissions Guidelines
Deadlines: Submissions are on-going. We aim to say yes, no or maybe within a maximum of 6 weeks.
Poems: Submit up to 6 poems on any subject of 60 lines or less, or a long poem up to 200 lines plus 2 shorter poems. We generally like to see a range of poems from a poet to help us choose the very best from that author.
Fiction: Submit Short Stories, or Excerpts from Novels on any subject or theme up to 5000 words long. It is probably best to keep your story around the 3000 word mark. However a story needs to be as long or as short as it needs to be. If it has to get to 5000 words, so be it, but not a word more.
Essays: May be up to 10,000 words long.
Plays: Short plays or excerpts from longer plays no longer than 6,000 words. Plays may be on any subject.
Reviews and Interviews: These may be up to 3000 words long.
All materials submitted must be in English Language. We encourage poems written in other languages as long as they are sent together with appropriate translations.
The name of the author as he/she would like to be credited must appear on the materials.
Please send a photograph of yourself in Jpeg format to go on your page.
Copyright: Remains with the authors at all times.
Simultaneous Submissions: We discourage simultaneous submissions.
Previously Published Work:
We discourage submissions of previously published work. If we feel strongly about a previously published work we may solicit it. If your work has been published elsewhere and you feel it has not been given the exposure it deserves, and you feel strongly about it, by all means submit it, but please mention where and when it was first published so that we may give due credit to the original publishers.
Payment & Complimentary Copies: We do not currently pay for work published and we do not provide complimentary copies. The reason for this is that the entire content of the magazine is free to read on our website. The limited funds from sales are not enough to cover the cost of complimentary copies or any royalty.
The future will be different. We are making efforts to monetise the magazine through advertisements, sales and subscriptions, affiliate and programs.
Important: Please submit only materials that are your original work.
